Enemy Mine, Saviour,PG,Past Fic

Title: Saviour
'verse: Enemy Mine, past fic
Character(s): Smoke, allusions to the Shadow King
Rating: PG
Word count: 133

A/N: This is about a rather curious and elusive creature, who seems to be rather shy unless she's doing something reluctantly heroic.

She runs, the wind at her back, dark hair fluttering like a tattered banner.

Slim legs pound against ebon sand, pushing the not-human's body to its limit and further. Desperation and purpose, a dangerous combination, running together like life-blood.

The box shimmers, faintly opaque despite the starless night, from underneath her crooked arm. In the Dark Lands the sky is strangely absent of illumination: there is no sun, no moon or stars. There is nothing but the Shadow that Drowns, and the ghost of a promise of something more ...one day...someday...

Never
, if things are not taken in hand.

A resolute figure, eyes narrowed, makes her way to the Border, to the line that even he may not cross, carrying with her a precious burden that holds the key to a nation's salvation.

Curiouser and curiouser. I'm looking forward to her getting loose. I liked the imagery, especially the part about the absence of all light, and the glow of the box. Helps give Smoke many more characteristics that dance with her name.

I like Smoke --I like her name, I like her persona, even though I know next to nothing about her at the moment, and I rather like that she did a very self-less thing despite being scared shitless of the inevitable (and they will happen, eventually) consequences.

She is my hero for today. Yay!

another little fragment I greatly enjoyed...

so, is Smoke the same one who is kept in the box like a musicbox dancer, or some one other?
I could see the sand and night in my mind as I read this one -- and I must say, in fact, it is as though the minimalism of your words forces me to envision such things, which I mean in a good way... The scene reminds me of a calendar I had long ago, filled with fantastic landscapes, or like gliding over the deserts of Mars if that planet glowed silver as our moon and not red like the strange alienscapes of Arizona...
One typo to pick you up on, I think you meant "faintly" and not "feintly" no?

but yes, as always, very intriguing. I am looking forward to the next grain of stardust in this series ^_^

Thankies *fixes*

Hmmm... Smoke isn't the musicbox dancer, no. She's --well, something else entirely, actually. She (the dancer) won't be making an appearance, just yet.

Anyway, for reasons, known only to herself, Smoke has decided that it would be a clever idea to steal the musicbox from the Shadow King. I can only imagine how he's going to react...

I'm glad that you like it, and thank you again for such a thoughtful review.
